About the Artist

Joan Skimmons is a retired Senior Vice President from a large technology company where she worked as a marketing professional in business to business marketing and sales. Joan opened River’s End Gallery after working for 50 years in the corporate world.

Joan’s paintings are created in oil and/or acrylic paints. She paints all types of subject matter. Her style is very loose realism to abstract. When the gallery is open, you can find Joan in the studio at the rear of the Gallery. All are welcome to come into the studio and watch art in process.

Joan started painting in oils at nine years old and painted until age 15. Then she stopped to gain an education, worked to fund the education and build her career, and later raise a family. She always promised herself that she would go back to art as a retirement gift to herself. In 2001, she began to paint again, and in 2006, she purchased a building, remodeled it and opened the River’s End Gallery. Joan has sold hundreds of paintings to clients all over the country and has enjoyed her many commissions to paint something special for a client.

Joan explained, “I love the art and the artists I represent. They are wonderful and the art they create makes people smile. There isn’t anything better. And, of course, I am so very pleased when one of my paintings finds a new home.”
